FEATURED ONGOING PROJECT
Ft. Sanders Ambulatory/Physician’s Office Expansion
IMC is currently involved in a heavy construction project located adjacent to the Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center located just a few blocks from the University of Tennessee Campus in Knoxville. Our portion of the contract began August 2009 and is set for completion this summer. As with many contracts, there is tremendous amount of coordination with existing facilities requiring detailed project planning.
The completed expansion will become a parking garage on the bottom two levels and physician’s offices on three levels. The ambulatory care portion consists of two connectors. The vertical connector is a large glass connector at the entrance of the hospital which connects the new facility with the main hospital. The 19th street connector connects the existing physician’s offices with the new and it runs atop 19th street.
Interstate installed the main steam and chill water lines in the existing hospital. We installed two new 1200-ton chillers to the hospital’s existing power plant which serves both Ft. Sanders and Children’s Hospital located across the street. A shut down of 19th street and the emergency entrance to the hospital was implemented and relocated so that underground mechanical and medical gas piping could be completed.
IMC’s portion of the contract will take approximately 33,000 man hours. A good portion of our sheet metal and piping crew labor was prefabricated in our shops located at 3200 Henson Road. We are proud to report that the project is tracking right on schedule and has zero recordable loss-time injuries.
