Interstate Mechanical University

Interstate Mechanical University (IMU) is a new internal company education/training program available for all Interstate employees, including our supplemental team members. If you are looking to expand your knowledge in your trade or one of the other trades, this program is for you.
Starting next month, IMU is launching with its first course on Plumbing . If you are interested and want to take the course, it is highly encouraged for you to come to the Orientation meeting.

 

Orientation/Introduction Meeting will be held in the Interstate Training Room on Monday, March 5 at 6 p.m. 

At this meeting:

        • You will receive your materials needed for the course
        • You will hear in full detail what exactly is expected of you in the course and go over the class “syllabus”
        • If you attend this meeting and find that the course may not be for you at this time, that is okay!
        • You will have a chance to ask any questions about the course, IMU and will be able to share your ideas

Information About Plumbing Course:

WHO  

The course is open for all Interstate employees and interim staff. You do not have to be out in the field or be a plumber to take this course. It will be highly beneficial to all trades to learn more about what we do!

TEACHER

Steve Mase, IMC Plumbing Foreman

WHAT

        • This course will be knowledge-based with a laid-back, open-discussion classroom atmosphere. Class size will be about 15-30 people. If enrollment exceeds 40 students, we will offer two classes on separate nights.
        • Steve Mase will cover a lot of material from the International Plumbing Code, while including specific situations and examples. Over the 8 sessions, you can expect some reading and preparation before class, an open floor to ask any questions and share personal stories, some small quizzes throughout the course and a final exam covering the learned material.
        • Whether you are a plumber, sheet metal mechanic, foreman, estimator, etc., this course will be valuable to bounce off ideas and learn more about the different trades and how they overlap.

WHEN

        • START DATE: Class will begin the week of March 19-23 – the week after Knox County Spring Break. Specific dates to be determined, so please let us know your preferences by clicking the “Register Here” link above.
        • TIME: Voluntary education must be outside of work hours, so class will be from 6-8 p.m. on whichever weeknight the class is held on
        • DURATION OF COURSE: Approximately 8 classes. Specific dates will be determined based on your feedback.  The course will end around mid May.
